IT Outage Notification: Alert Every Employee Instantly

When your VPN drops, your ERP goes offline, or your internet connection goes dark, the first sign IT usually gets is the helpdesk queue filling up. Employees send emails — to a mail server that may also be down. They ping Teams — through the VPN that's just failed. They call the helpdesk.

Notifiier is being built to break that pattern. When monitoring detects an incident, Notifiier pushes a desktop alert to every affected machine — before a single helpdesk ticket is opened.

The problem with Teams and email during outages

Teams, Slack, and email are the default IT communication channels for most organisations. They work well for routine announcements. They fail during the exact moment you need them most.

  • If the VPN is down, Teams is unreachable for remote workers
  • If the mail server is the incident, email notifications are useless
  • Even when channels are up, alerts get buried — 40% of Teams pings go unread during working hours
  • There is no read receipt: IT cannot prove employees were informed

A desktop pop-up delivered by a local agent on each machine is independent of the network services that are failing. It reaches the employee's screen directly.

How Notifiier handles IT outage notification

When your monitoring tool detects an incident — Zabbix, Nagios, Prometheus, Checkmk, PRTG, or any tool with webhook or API support — it can trigger Notifiier to:

  • Push a non-dismissible desktop pop-up to every targeted machine
  • Include incident details: what is affected, severity, and expected resolution time
  • Update the internal status page so employees can check progress without calling
  • Log delivery and acknowledgement with a timestamp per machine

What employees see

A clear, unambiguous pop-up on their desktop. "VPN is currently unavailable — IT is investigating. Expected resolution: 30 minutes." The employee acknowledges it. The helpdesk knows the message was received. No calls, no Slack panic, no management escalation at minute three.

Use cases within IT outage notification

  • VPN outages: notify all remote workers simultaneously
  • ERP or line-of-business application downtime: target only users with that application running
  • Internet connectivity outages: alert the whole office before they lose connectivity
  • Mail server incidents: communicate via desktop when email is unavailable
  • Security incidents: push immediate alerts while isolating affected systems

Early access

Notifiier is in active development. We are working with a small group of EU IT teams during early access to validate the alert delivery and monitoring integration.
